THE SOLDIER

As the soldier packs his bags,
He prepares himself to go.
He didn’t want them to know
That he was leavin’ home.
But the one thing was for sure,
Was that he might not make it back.
He sits down to dinner with his family and says,
I have to tell you guys the truth,
I’m gonna go raise the flag,
He says, I’ll see you in heaven if I don’t make it back.
He says, I’ll see you in heaven if I don’t make it back.

(Chorus)
Well he fought like a hero,
Risked his life many times,
And he wanted to call his family
Who had known better times.
Never gave up but missed out on his sleep many nights.
So to all you people doubting,
Stand up and fight, well then maybe you would understand, just what it’s like.

Layin’ in his army cot, he is tryin’ hard to sleep,
He is thinking about his family and he begins to weep.
Then he hears a sudden noise, they are under attack,
And he tells the other soldiers, grab your guns and fight back.
But before the fight begins, he bows his head where he’s at.
He prays, I’ll see you in heaven if I don’t make it back.
He prays, I’ll see you in heaven if I don’t make it back.

Chorus

When the soldier came home, all his family were glad
But he never forgot how the war had made him sad.
All the friends that he lost and all the battles that he won,
Will be carried on forever as stories for his son.
As he closed his eyes to sleep, in his bed all his own,
He prays, Lord thank you for helping me so I could get back home.
He prays, Lord thank you for helping me so I could get back home.

Chorus
